千葉和成「神曲」 ダンテ「神曲」現代解釈集
KAZUMASA CHIBA DIVINE COMEDY Modern Interpretation by Kazumasa Chiba of Dante’s "La Divina Commedia"
13 ～ 14 世紀イタリアの詩人、政治家、ダンテ・アリギエーリの代表作である「神曲」は「地獄篇」、「煉獄篇」、「天国篇」の三部からなるイタリア文学の最大の古典とされるものを、私、千葉和成が現代解釈したものを具現化する。ダンテが「神曲」を世に出した背景には、当時のイタリアにおける政争と自身のフィレンツェ追放、そして永遠の淑女ベアトリーチェへの愛への存在が大きい。ダンテは人生における道徳的原則を明らかにすることが「神曲」を執筆した目的であると記している。ダンテは自由に有名無名の実在した人物を登場させ、そこで罰せられ苦しむ様子も描かれている。私がダンテになり、現代の人間の愚かさ、政治的不義、人間中心主義などをダンテの「神曲」を舞台にして現代世界を巡り見て行く。
ダンテ「神曲」現代解釈集を制作するにあたり、私が興味を引かれたところは、「地獄」、「煉獄」、「天国」の中をダンテ（自分自身）が案内人とともに「地獄の世界」などを見て歩くという行為である。どんなにひどい惨状も目をそらさず観てまわるということ。そのことは表現していくものにとって、とても重要なことではないかと感じている。そうでなければ物事の本質に触れることなど出来ないのではないかという思いがあるからだ。私自身も心の闇を観てまわる必要があり、心の内面の旅をしていかなければならない。 ダンテの「神曲」を現代解釈し制作するということは、現代に生きる人間の内面世界を探る旅でもあり、葛藤や迷いなどを抱え込んだ自分自身の心を解放していく行為だと思う。私にとってこの制作を続けていくことは必要なことなのだ。そして心の闇を解放する戦いでもある。それを目指して「天国篇」までの長い道のりを、歩み続けられるかという自分との戦いでもある。

-Modern Interpretation by Kazumasa Chiba of Dante’s "La Divina Commedia"-
The masterpiece of 13 – 14th century Italian poet/politician Dante Alighieri, known as “The Divine Comedy has three volumes: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. It is considered one of the most important pieces of traditional literature. I, Kazunari Chiba, will interpret it my way, and embody it. There known to be reasons why Dante released Divine Comedy: turbulence in politics, Dante being displaced from Firenze, and love of his life Beatrice. Dante stated that Divine Comedy would make ethical principles clear. There appears many characters in Divine Comedy, from famous ones to ordinary people, and they are tortured and their pain is depicted as well. Now I am Dante, and I will travel around the modern world, trying to illustrate how human are mindless, political infidelity, anthropocentrism…something that we can relate to Dante’s Divine Comedy.
What’s inspiring in creating a modern interpretation of Dante’s “Divine Comedy” is that I get to experience all the “hells” in his work, especially in “Inferno” and ”Purgatorio” I will open my eyes and not walk away from any horrific experiences. As an artist, I am very sure that such experiences play a very essential role. Or else I would not be able to touch the core deep inside. I need to explore inside myself and soul to encounter my own darkness of heart. To make an modern interpretation of Dante’s “Divine Comedy’ means to explore one’s inner self in this modern era, as much as to free our soul from all conflict and confusion within So I need to keep on creating this piece of art. It also means to fight myself to be free from the darkness of my heart. Would I ever be able to reach “Paradiso” I need to keep on battling against myself.
